Who We Are
The Pacific Grove Breaker Choir is an incredible club that provides its members with opportunities to develop their vocal talent and engage with others who love music. This club meets every Saturday morning, allowing its members to explore their passion for music with other talented individuals. During these meetings, members are led by the exceptional director, Michelle Boulware, and her husband, Dr. Sean Boulware, who provide guidance on the intricacies of vocal music. The Pacific Grove Breaker Choir is much more than just a group of individuals singing together; it is a safe space where members can open up and make connections with one another. The supportive environment encourages members to express themselves freely whilst honing their musical skills. These Saturday morning sessions occur throughout most of the school year, ensuring continuity of learning and growth. Most impressively, the Pacific Grove Breaker Choir is a separate entity from the school's main choir, meaning members can indulge in their love for music beyond the standard school week. The Breaker Saturday Choir is a dynamic and diverse group of individuals who come together to share their love of music and singing. Our choir is comprised of several unique sub-groups, including our main general choir, our lively jazz choir, and our engaging barbershop groups, each with its own distinct style and flair. Throughout the year, we have numerous performances and events lined up for our members, including two highly-anticipated showcase performances at the end of each semester. Additionally, our club members are given the incredible opportunity to embark on an annual trip, where they can learn more about music and perform in exciting new locations. In 2023, the Breaker Saturday Choir embarked on a memorable Southern CA tour, where they were able to learn and perform at iconic venues such as Disneyland and Mt. Sac College in Walnut, CA. It was an incredible experience that we will never forget. Lastly, it is worth noting that our choir has been fortunate enough to perform at many prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, which was an unforgettable experience that left us all feeling proud and accomplished.
Our Directors
Michelle Boulware is a sought after conductor and vocalist and choral/vocal clinician. She specializes in choral/vocal health and works with choirs and singers all over the US as a vocal coach and clinician. As a soloist and performer, she has extensive experience in all areas of vocal music including opera, musical theater, and solo recitals. Michelle’s experience as a soloist and conductor has taken her to New York, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Canada, England, Ireland, and Scotland. She has sung backup for Josh Groban, Michael McDonald, Carmen, Tommy Sims and the Gettys.
Michelle currently is the Director of Choral Activities at Salinas High in Central California. She also continues to c0-direct the Saturday Breacher Choir at Pacific Grove High School and directs the music theater programs at both Pacific Grove Middle School and High School. Michelle has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Cal State Long Beach. She has studied with John Tebay, Dr. Katharin Rounds, and Dr. Lynn Bielefelt.
